Signs your parquet floor needs repair
Not every mark needs a full restoration. Here's what each type of parquet damage usually means, and what it takes to fix.
Scratches & scuffs
Furniture drags and daily wear. Usually a light sand and re-varnish of the affected area.
Dents & chipped blocks
Dropped objects or heavy loads. May need block replacement if the wood has split.
Water damaged parquet
Stains, dark patches or cupping near kitchens, bathrooms and balconies. Blocks are dried, replaced if swollen, and resealed.
Loose & lifting planks
Failed adhesive or a hollow sound underfoot. We re-glue and press blocks flush to the subfloor.
Gaps between blocks
Collects dust and moisture over time. Filled with matched wood resin, then levelled and sealed.
Termite damage
Hollow, crumbling or darkened blocks. Affected sections are cut out and replaced entirely.
Discolouration & fading
Sun exposure lightens or yellows patches unevenly. Corrected through sanding and re-staining.
Worn-through finish
High-traffic hallways and living rooms lose their sheen first. A full sand and refinish restores it.
Burnt & scorched wood
Cigarette burns, hot cookware, candles or faulty wiring can char the finish or wood. Charred material is sanded or cut out and replaced.
Parquet repair, sanding & restoration services
Spot Repair
For a few damaged boards or a small patch — scratches, a stain, a loose corner. No need to redo the whole floor. Most spot repairs are completed same-day. Learn more about spot repair →
Loose & Lifting Plank Repair
Blocks are lifted, the subfloor cleaned and levelled, then re-glued and pressed flat so creaking and hollow sounds stop for good.
Water Damage Restoration
Affected blocks are dried out or replaced, gaps resealed, and the area re-stained to match — stopping mould and further warping before it spreads. Learn more about water damage repair →
Sanding & Refinishing
Vacuum-attached sanding strips back old, worn finish evenly across the floor, prepping bare wood for staining and sealing — sometimes called parquet polishing. From SGD $1.40–$3.00 per sq ft. See polishing service details →
Staining & Varnishing
Water-based or oil-based varnish in matte, satin or gloss. Colour-matched to your existing floor or refreshed to a new tone.
Complete Parquet Restoration
Repair, sand, stain and varnish bundled into one project — the right call when damage is spread across the room, not just one area.
Burnt & Scorch Mark Repair
Shallow scorch marks are sanded out and refinished; deeper burns that have charred through the wood are cut out and replaced with matched blocks.

Parquet repair FAQ
Everything homeowners, tenants, landlords and agents usually ask before booking an inspection.
How much does parquet floor repair cost in Singapore?
Small spot repairs — a few scratches, one or two loose planks, small gaps — typically start from a few hundred dollars. Water damage, termite damage or multi-room jobs cost more depending on the area affected and how many blocks need replacing. Full restoration (sanding, repair and refinishing a whole room) is priced per square foot. We confirm exact pricing on-site before any work starts, so you're never quoted blind. See our full parquet polishing and repair price guide for detailed rates.
How many days does a parquet repair or restoration take?
Spot repairs — a handful of boards, a small water-damaged patch — are usually done in a single visit. A full room restoration (sanding, repairs, staining, varnishing) typically takes 1–2 days including drying time between coats. Larger units, multiple rooms, or floors with extensive rot or termite damage can take 3–5 days. We give a firm timeline at the inspection, not after we've started.
What happens during the inspection?
We walk the affected area, check whether blocks are loose, cupped, stained or hollow-sounding by tapping across the floor, and look underneath edges where possible to gauge subfloor condition. For water or termite damage, we check how far it's spread beyond what's visible on the surface. You get a plain-English explanation of what's actually wrong, whether it's a spot repair or full restoration, and a fixed quote — all in the same visit, at no cost.
Can a water damaged parquet floor be repaired, or does it need replacing?
Most water damaged parquet can be repaired if it's caught early. If only the surface is stained, sanding and refinishing usually solves it. If blocks have swelled, cupped or come loose, those pieces are dried out or replaced individually, then reglued before refinishing. Full replacement is only needed if the subfloor itself has rotted.
My floor feels soft or the wood looks rotten — can this still be fixed?
Soft, crumbling or dark rotten wood usually means water has been sitting under the blocks for a while, often from a slow leak rather than a one-off spill. We remove and replace the rotted blocks and check that the subfloor underneath is dry and sound before laying new ones — patching over active rot without addressing the moisture source just means it comes back. If the rot has spread into the subfloor itself, we'll flag that clearly rather than repair over it.
Why are my parquet planks loose, lifting or damaged?
This is usually failed adhesive, moisture getting under the blocks, or an uneven subfloor from the original installation. Damaged planks — cracked, chipped or badly worn — are cut out and replaced with matched wood; loose planks are lifted, the base cleaned and levelled, then reglued and pressed back down flush so they stop moving.
Why does my parquet floor sound hollow when I walk on it?
A hollow sound means the block has lost contact with the subfloor below it — the adhesive has failed, or there's a gap or void underneath from moisture, an uneven screed, or wear over time. It's not just cosmetic: a hollow block moves underfoot and cracks faster. We lift the block, clean out and level the void, then reglue and press it back down so it sits flush and solid again.
Do you handle end-of-tenancy and handover repairs?
Yes. We regularly work directly with tenants, landlords and property agents to get parquet floors handover-ready — repairing scuffs, stains and loose planks picked up during tenancy, matching the original finish so patch repairs don't stand out, and turning jobs around quickly to meet handover or move-in dates. We can liaise with whichever party is coordinating the handover and send photos or a report once the work is done.
Who do you work with — owners, tenants or agents?
All three. Owners book us directly for general repair and restoration; tenants arrange repairs before moving out to protect their deposit; agents bring us in between tenancies or ahead of a viewing. We're used to coordinating access and approvals with whoever is managing the unit, and can invoice the party responsible for payment.
What causes burnt or scorched patches on parquet, and can they be fixed?
Burn marks usually come from cigarettes, a hot pot or iron set directly on the floor, candle wax and flame, embers from joss sticks or a fireplace, sparks from nearby renovation or welding work, or occasionally faulty wiring under an appliance. Sunlight concentrated through a glass or crystal object can even scorch a small spot over time. Shallow, surface-level scorching is usually sanded out and refinished like any other surface damage. If the burn has charred deeper into the wood, the affected block is cut out and replaced, then blended in with the surrounding floor during refinishing.
Do you repair parquet in HDB flats and rental units?
Yes — we work on HDB flats, condominiums, landed homes and commercial units, including end-of-tenancy and handover repairs for landlords and agents who need the floor rental-ready.
